Clubs & Organizations

Capital Prep students organize, lead, and belong to a wide range of academic, artistic, social, cultural, and athletic clubs.

In the unlikely event you can’t find a club that aligns with your interests, we encourage you to create it yourself. Chances are there are other students at Capital Prep who share your interests too. While the list of clubs may vary from year to year depending on the interests of current students, the following is a representative sample of popular clubs and organizations at Capital Prep.

Students can contact their Advisory for more information about the following clubs.

National Honor Society (NHS) is a national organization based on recognizing and celebrating students who consistently demonstrate four principles: scholarship, service, leadership and character. We strive to serve the school community to help ensure that others can improve their scholarship, service, leadership and character as well through activities, fundraisers, and community involvement.

The purpose of Young Women Creating Change (Y.W.C.C.) is three pronged: to better ourselves through education, to educate those around us, and to create change in our communities based on what we have learned and believe in. In addition, YWCC also take part in being a responsible community member. YWCC is a student-run young women’s group for high school students who attend CPREP. This organization models itself after women centers that are typically seen on a college campus with a strong focus on leadership.

The Boys of Today, Men of Tomorrow Leadership Group (B.T.M.T.L.G.), empower young male students of Capital Prep’s Lower & Middle School by equipping them with the tools needed for academic and personal success through the incorporation of regularly scheduled workshops geared towards social and academic development.

Lesbian Gay Bi-Sexual Transgender Organization (LGBT)

Capital Prep’s LGBT is a student led organization for all students and staff members who attend Capital Prep. LGBT seeks to build leaders for Social Justice. These agents of change raise awareness about anti-LGBT harassment in school and in society, draw attention to gender role construction and gender inequity, as well as confront racism, sexism, heterosexism and all “isms”. The organization provides a safe and supportive place for LGBT students and allies.

Capital Prep’s Student Government is a student run organization that encompasses students from grades 3 through 12. The purpose of this group is to focus on creating, building, and continuing a strong sense of family and community to enrich the lives of students and staff at Capital Prep.

Student Government plans All-School activities on Fridays that help reinforce the school’s CORE Values and Five Learner Expectations. The Capital Prep Student Government also helps to plan school-wide events and activities throughout the year. They also have conversations on the behalf of the student body with the school administration to change or improve school policies. Students are nominated by staff and then voted and elected by their peers.

There are three different positions that a student can run for:

  1. Head boy or Head girl: responsibility is to lead the government and run all meetings.
  2. Grade Level Prefect: Act as a representative for their grade during student government meetings to ensure all students are being reached and heard.
  3. House Captains: Primary job is to plan, coordinate, and run the activities in All-School.
